This is where we might get a bit flustered with excitement. You're looking at a genuinely rather good French artwork from 1884, originally sketched out in Paris as a template for textile weaving. The designers painted it in gouache with proper care and attention, adding maker's marks and grids because they were, well, rather thorough about these things.
