Candledust

Candles, But In Powder Form. Stay With Me On This One.

Right. So this is going to take a moment to explain, but bear with me, because it's rather brilliant. The Candledust is the work of Merilin and Marko — an Estonian husband-and-wife team — who have rather cleverly reinvented the candle as a granulated, plant-based wax powder (also called sand, or pearls, or dust). You pour the powder into any heat-resistant container of your choosing — a vintage glass, a ceramic dish, an heirloom champagne coupe — pop a wick in the middle, and light. The thing burns beautifully, doesn't drip, self-extinguishes if it tips over (which is the small reassuring detail), and when it's done you simply reuse the leftover powder for the next one. It is, in essence, the candle problem solved.

Made entirely in Estonia from natural plant-based Sand Wax (no paraffin, no petroleum, no synthetic chemicals) with organic cotton wicks. Scents come from properly developed fragrance oils — Champagne, Spring Rhubarb, Rosso, Breeze, and a whole library besides — and the colour palette runs to 27 shades, which is rather a lot to play with. Designed equally for the home, the dinner party, and (rather elegantly) the wedding industry, where the same powder can be poured into a hundred mismatched vintage glasses for a properly characterful tablescape. Reed diffusers, car diffusers, refill capsules, and fragrance oils round out the range. The whole thing is properly clever, properly sustainable, and the small unexpected pleasure of a fragrance brand actually doing something new.
