Devon's Finest, Made the Proper Way Since 1979
Salcombe Dairy has been making award-winning Devonshire ice cream since 1979, when Peter Howard retired from the Merchant Navy, sat on a beach in North Devon, and announced he was going to start an ice cream company. The recipe he devised before opening is still the one used today — fresh milk from the local farm, double cream from the creamery, and the very best ingredients they can find. Nothing has changed because nothing needs to.
In recent years a trip to Peru to source exceptional cacao beans led to the creation of The Bar — a range of bean-to-bar chocolate made from scratch using fairly traded, organic cocoa nibs, entirely gluten free and produced with the same exacting standards as the ice cream. Everything Salcombe Dairy makes is completely natural, nut free, gluten free, egg free and palm oil free — and over ten percent of profits go to charity every year. These are people who genuinely care about what they make and how they make it.
