Haru is a London-based speciality matcha brand co-founded by Nicha and Francis — a couple whose proper grounding in the subject runs to having practised tea ceremony in both Japan and Thailand before deciding the wider matcha conversation was missing rather a lot. They started by running matcha tasting experiences (still going), and the brand grew out of that — sourced directly from small family-run farms, first-harvested in spring (when the leaves are at their most flavourful), and stone-milled in small batches in Uji, Kyoto, the spiritual home of matcha.

The hero is the Hana Blend — a Leafies Award-winning floral matcha from Uji combining three cultivars (Uji-Hikari, Samidori, and Gokou) for a properly characterful flavour profile: bright green, floral, sweet, and unmistakably the product of single-region care. Every pouch comes with a tasting card, every release explores a different terroir, and the wider catalogue includes hojicha alongside a small ritual-set range for the home. Now stocked at Selfridges and Japan Centre, plus a growing list of London cafés — though buying directly remains the better route for the curious.
