Lion & The Pear

Hand-Drawn Wall Art for Children's Rooms (and the Rest of the House).

Lion & The Pear is a small UK art-print brand founded by Stephanie Breeze — a textile designer who already ran her own studio (Breeze Studio) when she went looking for original, neutral, properly designed wall art for her young son Leo's bedroom and discovered that the children's-art market consisted almost entirely of two unhelpful options: scary oversized cartoon faces, or stuck-in-time gender-stereotyped themes (cars and dinosaurs for boys, fairies and unicorns for girls). Rather than accept either, she picked up her brushes and started painting the kind of art she actually wanted to put on the wall. The brand name carries the personal origin: "Lion" is for her son Leo, and "The Pear" is a nod to the family's home, Pear Tree House, where the brand was started. The result is a properly considered range of hand-drawn and hand-painted prints designed to fit in a child's bedroom without dating, and that work just as well in the rest of the family home.

The catalogue is broad and genuinely characterful — animal prints (Big Top Tiger, Cowboy Mouse, Be You Jaguar, Bring Me Sunshine Koala, Big Sister and Big Brother Rabbits, Three Mice, the Howdy Leopard with cow-print hat), word-art prints (Brave, Mermaid, Artist, Good Vibes, Comme Ci Comme Ca), food-art prints (the Croissant, the Pretzel, the Apple of My Eye), landscape prints from Stephanie's own travels (the Wanderer series, including St Davids in Pembrokeshire and Ellenborough Park), and the Scandi-inspired Educational Series. Pieces are painted in acrylic and reproduced as giclée prints on 270gsm velvet paper for proper depth and longevity. Everything sits at £22 across the Sostter selection, which makes the range a useful answer to "I'd like to refresh the children's bedroom without committing to a wallpaper rebuild."
