One Little Pine is a small family-run brand making Montessori furniture for children in a workshop in Lithuania, founded by parents who wanted, for their own children, the kind of pieces the bigger high-street brands don't tend to make: low, simple, well-proportioned, free of unnecessary decoration, and designed to invite a child's movement and decision-making rather than wait to be stowed in a cupboard. Everything is handmade from FSC-certified solid birch and ashwood, finished with Fiddes hard wax oil and water-based paints certified to the EN 71 European toy-safety standard and food-safe — which matters in a piece of children's furniture rather more than it matters in adult furniture, since children put their mouths on things. The Scandinavian visual register is the simplest way to describe the look, but the underlying logic is more specifically Montessori: low shelves at the child's height, accessible storage, no superfluous detail.

The signature pieces are the Montessori Tower — or Kitchen Helper — a height-adjustable wooden platform that lets a small child reach a worktop safely and helps with the cooking, holds well over 80kg, and is rated for ages one to four — alongside the Montessori bed, which carries a ten-year structural warranty, two adjustable leg heights, and removable side guards so that it grows from a toddler bed into something a teenager could still plausibly sleep in. Bookshelves are low and open-fronted so that children can see and reach what they want without help. Everything is made to order on a one-to-two-week processing time and shipped from Lithuania. The whole proposition rests on a not-particularly-fashionable insight: that children's furniture should be built to the same structural standards as adult furniture, finished to higher safety standards, and designed to last the years a child actually uses it — rather than the months until they outgrow the size.
