Ora is a small ceramic-lighting brand operating across two workshops — one in Portugal, where the artisanal pottery tradition runs deep enough that the country has been shipping ceramics worldwide for several centuries — and one in Luxembourg, where the brand is based and where the design work happens. The split-country model is unusual for a brand of this size, and is the thing that mostly distinguishes Ora from the wider European ceramic-lighting field: the design language stays unified (clean, sculptural, restrained) while two separate sets of artisans handle the firing and finishing, depending on the piece. The signature collection is the Curve wall light, a softly architectural ceramic form available in a curated range of bespoke enamel finishes — and, for clients with a particular palette in mind, in custom colours on request, which is the kind of accommodation more readily associated with bespoke architectural lighting at considerably higher price points.

Beyond the wall lights, the range covers ceramic table pieces and a small set of sculptural objects sitting at the boundary of lighting and decor. Each piece is fired in small series rather than mass-produced, which means subtle variation between objects rather than uniform identical ones — a feature in this category rather than a fault. The brand has begun to attract the kind of design-press attention that suggests the work travels: a set of Ora lamps has been selected for Nora, a new Ola Jachymiak-designed restaurant opening in Canary Wharf, which is the sort of placement that distinguishes a brand commercially from a more general decorative-ceramics offering. Pieces ship worldwide in eco-friendly packaging — a non-trivial detail given that ceramics are heavy and breakable, and that getting them where they need to go intact and at low environmental cost is the actual operational problem of running a brand like this.
