Riley Watch Co was founded by Sam — a pilot and aviation enthusiast who started from the conviction that the watches he wanted to wear did not exist at the price point he wanted to pay for them. The brand is based in Manchester, at a workshop on Moston Lane East where every watch is hand-built by master craftsmen and craftswomen rather than assembled from components and shipped. Sam builds them himself — as the Trustpilot replies make clear, when a customer has a question about a specific dial decision, Sam answers it personally and explains which production run they have and why it is the way it is. This is watchmaking with a body attached to it, which is rarer than it should be at any price point and almost unheard of at Riley's.

The collections are named after aviation legends. The HH-01 and HH-02 are tributes to Howard Hughes and his H1 Racer — the aircraft that set the world airspeed record in 1935, with the kind of aerodynamic boldness that made conventional engineers uncomfortable. The AE01-GMT draws from Amelia Earhart: precision navigation, fearlessness, and the particular elegance of a GMT complication on a pilot's watch. The Deco Moon is a moonphase in the Art Deco tradition of aviation's golden era, square-Roman dial and all. The Rifleman Field is the practical complement — automatic movement, sapphire crystal, solid waterproofing, and a touch of colour that makes it unmistakably a Riley.
