The mainstream jewellery market is dominated by three things: enormous luxury houses with massive marketing budgets, mass-produced high-street brands whose pieces last roughly until your next pay day, and the relentless churn of seasonal collections that someone wants you to feel obliged to keep up with. Independent jewellery — properly independent jewellery, made by actual makers in actual studios — is a different proposition entirely. The pieces are designed, cast and finished by the same hands whose name is on the label. The metals are increasingly recycled or upcycled. The stones, where used, are sourced with proper care. And the pieces themselves are made to be worn for years, passed on to children, and to quietly outlast whatever fashion the chains are currently pushing. The Jewellery Makers collection at Sostter brings together the independent makers we think exemplify this — from London studios working with recycled silver to Estonian goldsmiths casting from moss and birch bark.

The collection is anchored by Anchor & Crew, the modern-minimalist British brand crafting jewellery and accessories since 2014 using 100% recycled .925 sterling silver, 9ct gold, and Navy-grade rope from the same suppliers as the GB Royal Navy. From Dunoon, Asgard hand-casts archaeologically-accurate Viking and Pictish replica jewellery from real historical finds — Jim Glazzard trained in archaeology at the Jorvik Viking Centre before founding the brand in 2002. From Estonia, Agnes Veski creates Nordic silver jewellery inspired by the Estonian wilderness, casting from moss and birch bark in a process that necessarily destroys the original each time. Lentsius, a father-daughter studio in Tartu, upcycles waste metal and wood from local industry into properly distinctive pieces. Maarja Palu makes minimalist silver drawn from Kihnu Island heritage. New Vintage by Kriss uses 925 silver, gold-filled materials, semi-precious stones and cultured pearls for non-allergic pieces made to last decades. From Lithuania, SCULP (Elena Streckyte Jadello) combines white clay with precious metals; NO MORE handcrafts sterling silver and 24k gold vermeil pieces with a defiantly anti-fast-fashion ethos. Canary Lava uses olivine and Canary Islands lava from her Latvian studio. Rozenthal (Madara Rozentāle) makes hand-painted ceramic jewellery with distinctive marble patterns. And MyaMoon is the mother-daughter brand making registered-trademark silver jewellery with semi-precious stones since 2014. Each piece is signed, considered, and made to outlast the next season.
